Thomas Mitchell Days 2017

Library Building's 10th Anniversary

Come join us after the parade on Thomas Mitchell Days for games, giveaways, history, air conditioning, and snacks! We have a fun day planned and are so excited to celebrate because this year is the library's 10th ANNIVERSARY in this building! Come help us celebrate and also check out some of our regular library services that you may not know about yet!

September will be the 10th Anniversary of our new Library Building.  To help celebrate we will have all kinds of special activities and prizes on Saturday of Thomas Mitchell Days from noon to 5 pm.  For fun, each week until then we will have some special facts and information about the library in the city e-mail, on our Facebook page, and on our web page.

Week #1

Did you know the first Public Library in Polk County was in Des Moines in 1866, West Des Moines was next in 1934.  In 1951, Mitchellville was the third city in Polk County to have a library.  Ankeny was 1960, Urbandale, 1961, and Altoona 1971.
